"It looks like a piñata threw up everywhere!” Joe chuckled. At least, that's what he thought when he walked in this morning and saw the mess.
Chapter One - The Halloween Hangover
Joe walked up the front steps and knocked on the door. He waited patiently until Mary opened it up and let him in.
"You guys weren't answering your phone.”
Mary gave Joe a 'you have no idea' look as she shut the door behind him and walked back to the kitchen. As Joe looked around the room, he saw Al passed out on the couch, with faded black circles around his eyes and his mouth open, one corner smeared with the green that had colored his lips. His right arm dangled over the side of the couch, a hint of the green lip color smudged on the back of his hand, while a roll of Sweet Tarts was scattered on the floor, just out of reach. Two sacks of candy were set on either side of the coffee table, crushed empty juice boxes on top of it, and cobwebs hung from everything possible attached to the ceiling and its corners. There were two little boys sitting at the table nursing their chocolate milks, a little sugar to take the edge off, their heads resting in their right hands. After taking in the entire scene, Joe looked over at Mary.
"Halloween," she responded to his questioning look with a roll of her eyes.
